Measurement tool
Coin weight workbench
Weight is powerful supporting evidence, but it is not a standalone error detector.
Measurement discipline
- Calibrate with an appropriate reference weight.
- Use a stable, level, draft-free surface.
- Remove holders and loose debris without cleaning the coin.
- Take at least three readings.
- Check official specifications for the exact date and composition.
- Use diameter, thickness, edge and composition evidence too.
A worn silver coin can be light. A dirty coin can be heavy. A plated coin can look like a wrong metal. A cheap scale can drift enough to create a false transitional-error claim.
